Vivian Ioannou

October 12, 1936 — December 30, 2019

Portland

Vivian Ioannou passed away peacefully on Monday, December 30.  Vivian was born in Athens, Greece to Manolis and Maria (Mary) Hiotini.  Vivian immigrated to Portland, Oregon from Greece at the age of 13 with her widowed mother. She attended Holladay grade school and Girls Polytechnic High School, graduating in 1955.  After attending business college, Vivian spent six months in New York City.  Following her return to Portland, Vivian met and married Stanley Ioannou, a merchant marine from Skopelos, Greece, in 1958.  They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February 2018.  Both were life-long residents of the Beaumont neighborhood.

Vivian was a homemaker; worked side-by-side with Stanley when they owned Stan’s Grocery on SE Harold; and was later employed by Holladay Park Hospital.

Vivian introduced the travel bug to her children in 1973 when she took them on a special summer long educational/heritage trip with stops in Washington DC, New York City and Greece.  Vivian enjoyed cruises and road trips with Stanley and traveled to Greece several times over the years.

Vivian is now reunited with Stanley and her mother Mary Demos who predeceased her in 2018 and 2001, respectively, and will be deeply missed by her family.  She is survived by daughters, Anastasia Johansson (Eric) and Kali Turner (Bob); son, Angelo Ioannou; and granddaughter, Alexandra Ebong (Emmanuel). She is survived by one first cousin, Athena Velokas, in New Jersey. Private interment will be held at Rose City Cemetery.  Remembrances can be made to the Oregon Humane Society.
