Sara Ann (Welch) McNeil

October 4, 1931 — February 24, 2021

Sara McNeil passed away on February 24th, 2021 after a full life.  She was living at Monterey Court Memory Facility and was comfortable in her daily routine of snacks and caregivers checking on her until the very end of her life. She would have been celebrating her 65th Wedding Anniversary in June and her 90th Birthday in October.

Raised in Ottumwa, Iowa by parents Merrill and Anna Welch, she was very involved in church, Campfire Girls and other community activities. She graduated from Iowa Wesleyan University with her degree in education. She worked as a music and home-economics teacher.

In 1956, she married Bob McNeil and moved to Boston Massachusetts where she taught high school while Bob was attending Boston University for his Master of Theology degree. They moved west where Bob had his first church in Vale, Oregon.

Over the years, she was dedicated to her family and loved ones. Her kitchen was always full of desserts and she loved having people over for the holidays. She believed Vicks Vapor Rub could cure about everything and never went anywhere without a camera.

She is survived by her devoted husband Bob McNeil, daughter Roseanne and two sons Kevin and Merrill; two granddaughters Chelsea and Shelby; three great-granddaughters Neveah, Layla and Aaliyah; brother Fred Welch and sister-in-law Vivian; two nieces Denise Longley and Dariene Welch, nephew Kent Welch; and cousins Daniel Kohler, Shirley Mills and Roger Allen.

One of the great joys in Sara's life was to be able to help care for her great granddaughter, Layla, who has special needs. Please donate to the savings account listed here. All proceeds go to the care of Layla and all of the specialized equipment that she is going to need to make her life more comfortable.
