Clifford Lee Barnett Jr.

August 22, 1942 ~ July 19, 2023 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Obituary

Cliff Barnett passed away peacefully after a brief illness on July 19, 2023, at the age of 80, surrounded by his wife and daughters.

Born in August 1942, in Oakland, CA, to Joyce and Clifford Barnett, Sr., Cliff received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from San Francisco State University. He served in the U.S. Army with the 11th Infantry Brigade, stationed in Oahu, Hawaii, before serving in Vietnam.

As a young man, Cliff’s proudest accomplishments were his time as a Smokejumper in Missoula, MT, and winning the Army Pacific Championship with his post basketball team in Hawaii.

Cliff spent his professional career in sales, most with Permacel/Nitto-Denko. Cliff sold tape, the sticky kind. At the end of his career, he worked predominantly in the Aerospace industry (yes, they use tape on planes, too) and absolutely loved it. After discovering that he was older than one of his colleagues grandmother, he realized it was time to retire. The relationships he made throughout his career carried forward throughout his life.

After getting married, Cliff and Teena settled into the Magnolia neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. In Seattle, they raised their girls, rooted on their Seattle Mariners – even traveling each year to Arizona for Spring Training, were active in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) and University Presbyterian Church, and built a close community of neighbors and friends. They later moved to Portland, Oregon to be live closer to their daughters and their families.

A proud grandfather of twin girls, Cliff loved his family and friends, golf, baseball, and an excellent scotch. Cliff will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit, his passion, and the incredible joy he found in his family. He will leave a legacy of connection with all that he met throughout his life. If you met Cliff, you probably have a memorable story with him.

Cliff is survived by his wife of 53 years, Teena, his daughters Christine Mohammadpour (Mark) and Carly Barnett (Kathy), and granddaughters, Elsie and Joy

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
