Mr. Wubshet ("Wubu") Shimelis Desta was born on November 23, 1964, in
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to his late father, Mr. Shimelis Desta, and his mother, Mrs.
Kelemwa Worku. At a very young age, he and his family moved to the city of Nazareth
where he grew up and completed his primary education at Kera Elementary School
and secondary education at Atsie Gelawdeos High School. He joined the high school
band and played trombone and trumpet for four years. His love for playing these
instruments allowed him to travel to various regions with the school and showcase
his talent.
In 1986, Wubu separated from his family and left his country to migrate to Somalia
due to political pressure in Ethiopia during the Derg era. While in Somalia, he
managed the hardships of life in exile with patience and perseverance. After four years
of hardship, the Somali exile ended, and Wubu came to America on May 23, 1990.
He made Portland, Oregon his home where he lived for thirty-three years.
Since his arrival in America, Mr. Wubu supported himself and his family in various
fields and organizations. Most importantly, with his consistent desire to improve their
lives, Mr. Wubu established his own companies, including a medical transportation
company and an Ethiopian restaurant that he ran successfully.
Mr. Wubu was married to his beloved wife, Mrs. Eneysh Kebede, for 23 years and
raised two children, Ruth and Leul, whom he loved dearly and cared for. Mr. Wubu
was a peaceful, quiet, hardworking, and sincere father, son, brother, and
friend to all of us.
Our beloved Wubu rested in peace surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 11, 2023,
due to illness. His playfulness, kindness, and gentle nature will be dearly missed. May
God grant him eternal rest and bring comfort to his wife, children, extended family,
and friends.
