Toni Ann Merrill

November 8, 1946 — March 9, 2026

Toni Ann Merrill passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at her home in Troutdale, Oregon, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on November 8, 1946, in Portland, Oregon, to Anthony Fila and Betty Bennett.

Toni grew up in the Parkrose area of Portland and attended Parkrose High School, where she met Jim Merrill, who would later become her husband. Together they built a life centered around family and raised three children: Jim Richard Merrill, Michael Anthony Merrill, and Bridgett Haines.

Toni is survived by her sisters, Pat Smith and Tami Barnard. She was preceded in death by her brother, Don Nelson. She was also the proud grandmother of six grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and were one of the greatest blessings in her life.

For many years, Toni devoted herself to caring for and guiding young children in their early years. Families trusted her deeply, knowing their children were in a safe, loving, and nurturing environment. She approached this responsibility with patience, warmth, and genuine compassion. Through her dedication, she helped shape the early lives of many children, becoming a trusted and beloved presence to the families she served. To many of them, she became far more than a caregiver — she became part of the family.

Outside of her work, Toni loved gardening and spending time tending to her plants and flowers. She especially cherished time with her grandchildren and the simple moments spent with family.

Toni will be remembered for her kind heart, her dedication to family, and the lasting impact she had on the many children and families she cared for throughout her life. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A service honoring Toni’s life will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Rose City Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
