Taro Miura

May 21, 1922 — August 14, 2025

Portland

Taro Miura was born in Portland, Oregon on May 21, 1922 the oldest of six children to Tamuro and Rin Miura. He graduated from Benson High School and started college before being interrupted by World War II.

During the war he, along with the rest of his siblings and mother, were detained by the US government into Japanese internment camps, but he was later able to leave to work in the naval shipyards in Minnesota.

After the war he worked as a machinist and had a lifelong joy of taking things apart and figuring out how they worked, or didn’t.

He met Wanda Lee at a Chinese New Year dance in February of 1965 and got married a year later on July 23, 1966. They had two children, Darren and Sandra.

Taro was an avid reader and loved to learn about things. Nature and Nova on PBS were some of his favorite shows, as well as 60 minutes and the news. He looked forward to reading the newspaper everyday, including the comics.

Taro passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025 at home, as he wished. A graveside ceremony will be held at Rose City Cemetery. Service information will be updated once available.

Taro is survived by his brother Dan Miura, sister Nami Koida, and his children.
