Signe Marie Eklund Larson, 95 passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in Forest Grove after a brief illness.
She and her late husband of nearly sixty years, Harold Vernon Larson, retired to Manzanita in 1985 where they spent many happy years. They were both graduates of the University of Oregon. Signe was born in Portland on April 16, 1924 to Nils Ossian Eklund and Signe Augusta Andersson. She received a Master of Library Science degree from Catholic University in 1968, and subsequently served as Chief of Research Services at the Department of Housing and Urban Development Library in Washington D.C. She was very active in the American Library Association, the Law Library Association, and the Special Libraries Association. In retirement, she established her own contract research firm, Information Masters, and was active with her husband in Neahkahnie affairs.
She is survived by four children: Harold Vernon Larson, Jr., Jennifer Signe Larson, Jon Eric Larson, and Christina Marie Larson and their spouses; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews including the "last of the Eklunds," Karin Anna Eklund of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Vernon Larson, sisters Ellen Victoria Boyd and Elsa Margaret Hansen, and her brother Nils O. Eklund, Jr. Funeral and burial at Rose City Cemetery will be private.
The Larson family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of the Marquis Forest Grove Assisted Living and Home Instead Senior Care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Signe's name to OHSU or the Lower Nehalem Community Trust.
