Sammye N. Akin

Sammye N. Akin was born on December 17, 1917 in Dederick, Missouri to Charles and Dixie (Percifield) Wilkerson. She was raised and educated in Boise, Idaho. She married Dell Akin in 1940. They moved to Portland in 1942. Sammye's husband, Dell, died in 1959. She had worked as a claims examiner for OPS Blueshield and has also worked as an assitant buyer for Meier and Frank. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The Mayflower Society, and the Glenfair Evangelical Church. Mrs. Akin passed away on July 23, 2008 in Portland at the age of 90 and is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Ron Thelin.
