Roxana Starks Obituary

Roxana (Bean) Starks was born on March 19, 1924 to Jimmie Bean and Sallie Dunham in Dallas County, Alabama. Roxana and her mother, Sallie Coleman, and her daughter, Gloria Jean Evans, moved to the Pacific Northwest (Portland, Oregon) to start life away from the South. She met and married Walter Lee Maxwell, Sr. There were two children born from that union, Janet Lee Maxwell and Walter Lee Maxwell, Jr.

In the early sixties she met and married Nelson Starks. Roxana attended Berean Baptist Church, where she was on the Usher Board and Social

Committee, as well as being a Deconess and member of the choir. She loved life and praising the Lord Jesus Christ. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Roxana retired from Nabisco after 30+ years of dedicated service. She was devoted to her  family, and was always willing to lend a helping hand and provide insightful advice. She

was the same with members of the church and community. Roxana was preceded in death by her mother, Sallie Coleman; her first & second husbands; her daughter, Gloria Jean Brown; and her granddaughter, Leslie Watson.

She is survived by her daughter Janet Maxwell (Children:  Deshawne Maxwell, Orlando

Ashley, Phyleesha Ashley); her son, Walter Maxwell (Teresa), (Children:  Stephanie Beasley, Jerry Tillman, Tyese Tillman, Leighlani Maxwell,). She is also survived by

Grandchildren, Sally Anne Wesley, Billy Watson, Phillip Brown, Edna Brown and Mary Alice Brown, and a host of generations of great, great-great and great-great-great grandchildren, numerous cousins, and an abundance of friends.

She will be dearly missed…You have earned your wings….Soar high.
