Ronald Alfred Carver

December 21, 1939 — October 27, 2021

Ronald A. Carver, 81, passed away from a heart attack on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 in Portland, Oregon. He had no known heart issues.

Ron was born in Portland, Oregon on December 21, 1939, the only child of Clarence and Helen Carver. His father passed away from cancer at the age of 55 on May 19, 1956; Ron was 16 years old. His mother, Helen, passed away from Alzheimer’s in 1996 at the age of 97.

Ron graduated from Grant High School in Portland, Class of 1958. He was employed by the United States Post Office and served as a letter carrier, walking several miles a day. He later moved up the ranks to serve as a postal employee driving instructor, a position from which he retired in 1992.

For twenty years, Ron proudly served in the Air National Guard as a fuel supervisor. While his service never took him overseas, he traveled frequently to Alaska and loved the area.

Ron married his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Barb) Larson Carver, on October 28, 1961, and they had two children: Ronda Lynn, born in September, 1963, and Timothy Ray, born in June, 1967.

In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barb, and his daughter, Ronda Salholm, as well as several aunts and uncles.

Ron is survived by his son, Timothy Carver, his daughter-in-law, Leslie (Martin) Carver, four grandchildren, Chad and Ryan Salholm, Tessa (Carver) Patterson and her husband, Daniel Patterson, Catie Carver, his great-grandson, Jayden Patterson, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A private graveside service will be conducted at Willamette National Cemetery, and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, located at 1624 NE Hancock St., Portland, OR 97212.
