Richard H. Wheatley

April 22, 1933 — November 19, 2018

Richard Harold Wheatley was born in Portland to Charles and Dora Wheatley on April 22, 1933.  His education was at Beech elementary, Jefferson High, the University of Portland for his Master's degree and Nova University for his Doctorate degree.  He spent 31 years in Portland Public Schools as teacher, principal and Director of Instruction.  He had served in the U.S. Army.  He was married to Marlene Bushey, and they later divorced.  He married Diane (Embree) Odman and they spent over 46 years together traveling US  and many foreign countries during their 30 years of retirement.   Camping, golf and delivering Meals on Wheels were a big part of his retirement.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Diane; son KC Wheatley (Bonnie) Peoria, AZ; Lisa Wheatley, Portland; Jon-Kirk Odman (Carolyn)Portland; Scott Odman (Paula) of Salem; Galen Odman Canby.  Grandchildren:  Alexander, Stephanie, Nicholas, Forrest, Cody, twins Alyssa and Trent and Noah.  Great granddaughter Penelope Jade Odman.   An extended Vietnamese family of the Nuygens and the Hoangs,  Portland.

The family wishes to express thank you to his caregiver Melissa and the wonderful Kaiser Hospice team.   In lieu of flowers, please remember the Multiple Myeloma cancer research and the Oregon Humane Society.    Dick will always be remembered for his generosity, and many other admirable traits too many to mention.
