Portland, Oregon

Phyllis Ruth Barnes was born on September 13, 1939 in Lawton, Oklahoma to Alfred Lincoln and Marjorie Isabelle Banks. She was the youngest of eight siblings. Phyllis was five years old when the family moved to Portland, Oregon. She attended Boise Elementary School and Jefferson High School where she graduated in 1957. Phyllis was the head of Patient Accounts at Emanuel Hospital for many years. She later worked for her sister and brother-inlaw, Marjorie and John McCuller, at their family restaurant, Farmer Johns. She completed her professional career as an Elder Service Prescription Drug Advocate through Providence Hospital. Phyllis was an active member of Maranatha Church of God for over forty years. She was a believer who loved most of all reading the Word of God and praying. Another of her favorite pastimes was talking with her sisters. She also enjoyed fashion and had even graduated from the Gloria LaVon Modeling School. She was a beautiful person inside and out and who loved people and giving of herself unselfishly. Phyllis’s passing is followed by her four sisters; Mildred Smith, Emma Jean Wesley, Vivian Warren and Marjorie McCuller, two brothers; Herman and Clifton Banks. She leaves to mourn a brother, Ronald Banks, two sons; Forrest and Lisa Barnes and Herman and Leslee Barnes, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces and nephews.
