Patricia Ann MacKenzie Hicks passed away peacefully on July 3, 2023, surrounded by her family after a long illness of stroke and dementia.
Having grown up in Northeast Portland, she attended both Kennedy Grade School and Jefferson High School (Class of 1956). She spent most of her working career at Wausau Insurance as a Secretarial Services supervisor.
Her many passions in life included her love of Jesus, her love of family and friends, and pride in her strong Scottish heritage. She loved music and among her many talents she was a masterful pianist and was often asked to play for special music at church as well as for private occasions. She also loved singing, and sang for many years in the church choir.
She loved family potlucks and church potlucks and was a wonderful cook. Not only had she perfected her mother’s outstanding pie dough recipe, but she made the best Scottish shortbread ever.
Pat’s warm and wonderful smile made her a friend to everyone she met. She was open and sincere, generous and filled with compassion.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Hull & son-in-law, Jay Hull; son, Daniel Owens & daughter-in-law, Debbie Owens; daughter, Laurie Hicks-Bullock & son-in-law Barclay Bullock; sister, Carole Lee & brother-in-law, Rodney Lee. She is also survived by her nephew, her niece and great nieces, her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. She loved being “Auntie Pat” to David Lee, Shauna Metcalf (and Jason), Taylor & Alyssa; and “Gramma” to Ashley, Kathleen, Justin, Jesse, Jeffrey (and Brittany), Marissa (and Jared) & Garrett (and Danielle); and “Great Gramma” to Gracie, Abner, Enid, Levi, Dawson and Layne.
Her Celebration of Life service will be held at Sunnyside Adventist Church, 10501 SE Market, Portland, on Sunday, September 24 at 2 p.m.
Rose City Cemetery is in charge of arrangements.
