Melvin Peterson

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Melvin Peterson passed away Jan 21, 2020.  He was devoted to his family, friends, neighbors, and community, and our hearts are broken by the loss.  Mel’s brothers, Charles and Lyle Peterson preceded him in death.  Born Nov. 13, 1922, Mel grew up on the Oregon Coast, graduating from Nestucca Union HS, and joined the WWll effort as a Navy AMM1c.

At the conclusion of the war, he met and married the love of his life, Norma, to whom he was devoted until his last breath, being married 73 years. They shared a life of family first, enjoying boating, camping, fishing, RVing and always being the warm home and welcoming hearth for their children Daniel (Nancy) and Karin, grandchildren Sara (Corey) Van Brunt, Kevin, Jessica Ascher (Timothy), and Kaitlin Arena, With great joy, Mel welcomed three great grandchildren; Chloe and Parker Van Brunt, and mostly recently, Ansel Ascher.  Mel was the captain of us all, and we will miss his loyal and devoted guidance, joy and love.

A celebration of his wonderful life will be held on Tues, January 28, 2020 at 1:00 pm, at Rose City Funeral Home, 5625 NE Fremont Street, Portland.
