Mary Alice Legarde made her introduction on November 11, 1926, in Cottage Grove, Alabama and attended Coosa County Training School.
She moved to Portland in 1954 to escape the segregated south after her niece, Juanita, and her friends, moved here.
Mary Alice held many occupations, including factory worker, house keeper, dietician, and Teacher’s Aide.
Because her and her siblings worked many hours on their acreage growing and harvesting food, caring for the farm and tending to her home, she maintained a garden where ever she lived. She was a good mother to her daughter and loved the concept of family: she loved the fellowship and made herself available whenever any of her family needed her. She also had many, many friends whom she loved and laughed with and counseled.
Mary Alice loved cooking, laughing, working puzzles, playing games on her computer, sharing stories about her life, and discussing the Bible, remaining a faithful member of Mallory Church of Christ until her health declined.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Lorena, and her grand puppy, Oliver, of Portland, Oregon and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The last of 17 children to leave this earth, she will be joyously received as she rejoins her entire immediate family: her parents Lucy Ann and Jenkins Marbury; sisters, Lillie Pearl, Dessie, Dora, Callie, Novella, Maggie, Bessie and Pricilla; and brothers, Master, Oscar, Gregory, Lawrence, George, Johnny, Ambrose and Jerry.
