Marjorie Louise Westrup

With hearts full of gratitude for a richly lived life that spanned over 93 years, we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Louise Westrup on August 11, 2026.

Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, on October 14, 1932, Marge was the fourth and youngest child of Eva (Zimmerman) and Thomas McMahon. She is survived by her daughters, Therese (Randy) Ruesink, Anne Westrup, Sue Westrup, Kate (Brian) Schenkman, her son, Joseph (Yok Lynn Wong) Westrup, and her grandchildren, Nick, Celeste, Jack, and Milo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (Dick) and her daughter, Molly. She often described her childhood as idyllic, grounded in the love of her parents, her two beautiful older sisters, Pat and Mary, and her big brother, Tom, a Catholic priest that she was so proud of. She grew up attending local Catholic schools, which laid a lifelong foundation for her deep Catholic faith.

Marge earned a Bachelors Degree in English Literature from the University of Portland—an achievement made all the more impressive by the fact that she completed it with a few young children in tow! Those children were shared with the love of her life, Dick Westrup, a "younger man" by exactly two months, whom she met in a modern-day Cinderella story involving a lost shoe. They were married within a year, raising six children as true partners. After they were mostly grown, she worked as a secretary at St. Rose Catholic School and at Rigler Elementary.

Smart, outspoken, and loyal, Marjorie was never afraid to offer her opinion or stand up for others. She possessed a razor-sharp wit, a great sense of humor, and an ability to laugh at herself and her crazy foibles. Her home was always open to family, in-laws, friends, and often strangers, ensuring that anyone who walked through her door felt at home. She was an avid reader and trivia master with vast and wide-ranging knowledge. She also had a competitive streak while wielding lawn darts or playing card and board games. She was a passionate sports fan who enthusiastically cheered on her favorite teams, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Portland Trailblazers, and the Seattle Mariners. Marge delighted in giving thoughtful gifts, and funny cards, and serving her community through countless hours of volunteering. She was proud of her Irish heritage and was the long-time matriarch of the McMahon family after the death of her parents and siblings. She was a beloved aunt to 16 nieces and nephews and will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.
