On the morning of Monday, June 13, 1977, in Portland, Oregon, Lawrence Damon Collins entered this world, bringing immense joy to all who knew him. His educational journey began at Irvington Elementary School, and he grew up attending Power House Church of God in Christ. His favorite story was that of Zacchaeus, who climbed a sycamore tree to see Jesus. You would often hear him quoting Luke 19:5: “Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down.”
As he grew older, he attended the Ark of Safety Church of God in Christ, where he would participate in the Sunshine Band, singing one of his favorite songs, “They Crucified my Savior.”Lawrence didn’t have time for decorum or formalities when it came to connecting with people. You’d often find him striking up a conversation with anyone nearby.
His personality would brighten up any room he entered, and he possessed an extraordinary gift for making genuine connections and filling every interaction with warmth, joy, and laughter. He made many friends on his adventures, as he loved to travel and fish. If he wasn’t trying to get a crappie to bite, he was exploring a new or familiar city. Not only was he a fun-loving friend, but also a practical joker. If you weren’t laughing at the joke or in on the joke, the joke was on you. Lawrence's greatest love was his family, and he found true happiness in fatherhood.
He cherished every moment spent with his children. He also played a big role in his extended family, where he fondly called himself the "only begotten grandson". He carried this lighthearted spirit throughout his life. He was a caring son, loving brother, kind cousin and devoted father. Lawrence’s legacy of love, humor, and generosity will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
He leaves behind a large void and will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have been part of his life.
Lawrence's memory is carried on by his grandmother, Ethel Thomas, parents, Brenda Peterson, Larry Collins and Reginald Peterson; his children, Lawrence Collins, Laquon Collins, LaNaya Collins, Lazaila Collins, Lawerence Collins Jr., and Lawren Collins; five grandchildren and siblings Gary Collins, Larry Collins, DJ Collins, Bentley Collins, Larry Morgan Collins, Jaden Collins, Jeremiah Collins, Bethany Wing, KeEmonta Peterson, Briana Ekandem and Camryn Calhoun; and a host of relatives and friends that love him dearly. Lastly, he is preceded by his first son, Lawrence Collins.
