Jack Steinberg

December 13, 1947 — October 17, 2018

Jack Edward Steinberg, December 13, 1947- October 17, 2018

Born to Jack and June Steinberg in 1947, Manhattan Beach California. They were joined by his sister Janis in 1951. Jack spent his formative years surfing in the Pacific a few blocks from his house.
Jack joined the seminary and spent a year there before he graduated from high school. His family moved to Chicago where Jack joined the cadets and became a cop. He had many fantastic stories during his short time as a cop in Chicago. He enrolled at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois where he received his Bachelor's Degree in American Literature and began many of his life-long friendships. It was at SIU that Jack met Terry, his first wife, as well as Greg and Audrey Baludof and Margaret and Ron Hershey. The three couples formed a strong bond as they began their adult lives together, got married, and had children.
In 1978 Jack and Terry welcomed Katie into their lives. By 1980, Jack was working for Universal Underwriters Group and he relocated to California. Not long thereafter, they welcomed Joey into their family. By 1983 the Steinbergs moved to Portland, Oregon where they settled.
In the years that followed the move to Portland, Jack continued to explore his love of music by taking up the Saxophone. He never tired of fishing trips, cigars, music, golf and spending quality time with friends. Jack had a passion for living and took up many interests. He took a deep dive into scuba diving and underwater photography as he explored the reefs of the Grand Caymen Island, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, and of course, the Pacific in Hawaii and Mexico as often as he could.
In 1996, the year of the floods, Jack married Claudia and they began their journey together as they blended families. Jack became a stepfather to Brendan and Robyn and embarked on a journey of sharing their lives together. Jack then joined the Money Group, where he met Phil, another lifelong friend. Not long after he began working for Sentry. Jack and Claudia moved to their present home in Rose City, near the golf course. He continued to travel all over the west coast for work and they continued to travel together to Hawaii and Mexico as often as they could. In his spare time Jack could often be found on the golf course with his good friends, always working on improving his game.
Jack began working for Federated and truly enjoyed assisting others with financial plans, retirement and pensions. In his free time he began playing the Ukulele and he and Claudia became part of the Portland Ukulele Choir. He looked forward to retirement and he and Claudia continued to plan and take trips together such as their trip to Italy in 2013.
Jack relished being a grandfather and spent many afternoons with his grandsons Eamonn and Edwin, fishing or heading down to the local arcade after school. During the last year of his life he welcomed Robyn’s daughter Etta into the family as their newest grandchild.
Jack’s love of life was infectious to all those who knew him. He always had a smile and an open door, he was host to countless parties and gatherings. He will be greatly missed to all who knew him.
