Irene was born in Portland. She was the third of four sisters born into her family. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Portland. After high school graduation she attended and graduated from business school in Portland.
She married the love of her life, Alexander Usinger, on Valentine's day of 1942. She was employed by Pacific NW Bell for nearly ten years.
She and Al moved to The Dalles in 1950, where they purchased Mid-Columbia Garbage Service. She helped run their business for the next thirty years.
Irene was an active member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha for many years. She was also active on The Dalles Mental Health Board, County Extension, and PTA. Weekends the family enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and lazy afternoons spent at their boathouse on the Columbia River. In retirement, she and Al spent many adventures in their fifth wheel with family, friends, and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Brian); son, Scott (Chris); grandchildren, Erica, Rachel, Lindsay, and Alex; and by five great-grandchildren.
Visitation hours are on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, at Rose City Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11:00 am, also at Rose City Funeral Home.
