Haddas Aregai

Haddas Aregai's spirit graced this world in Asmara, Eritrea, on October 5th, 1952. As the eldest of seven siblings, she devoted her life to Christ from an early age. In the late ’60s, she met Fessehazion, her beloved husband, and it was love at first sight. Introduced by mutual friends, they courted for two years before exchanging vows in May 1970.
The couple welcomed three healthy children Helen, Rahel, and Mesgana, before the Eritrean war escalated, leading Haddas to flee to Sudan with her little ones, armed only with the clothes on her back. After a brief stay in Sudan, they reunited with Fessehazion in Saudi Arabia for a few years, where two more daughters, Rahwa and Yerusalem, joined their family.
Soon after, the Catholic Church in Rome, Italy, provided refuge for Haddas and her children before they embarked on their journey to America in the spring of 1982.

Haddas personified wisdom, gentleness, and humility. Not only did she radiate physical grace, but profound wisdom also illuminated her path. Her gentle demeanor testified to a compassionate and caring nature, while her meekness reflected a quiet strength that resonated with those around her—a true embodiment of a Proverbs 31 woman.

As a faithful and dedicated mother, grandmother, wife, and friend, she exemplified the love of Jesus. Never uttering a complaint or speaking ill of others, she treated her daughters with equality and without favoritism.

Haddas found joy in walks, gardening, and treasured moments with her family and church. During retirement, she and her husband explored the world, culminating in a memorable trip to Israel, where they renewed their wedding vows on their 50th anniversary.
Her unexpected final moments were shared with those she loved, truly reflecting the essence of the remarkable person she was.

Haddas is survived by her husband, Fessehazion Gebreyesus her daughters Helen, Rahel, Mesgana, Rahwa, and Yerusalem, her grandchildren Ariam, Amanuel, Lydia and Nahom.
