Freddie Mae Johnson

November 24, 1932 — July 13, 2019

Freddie Mae Johnson arrived on November 24th, 1932 in Linden, Texas.

She was the second of 8 children born to Fred C. & Eula Allen.

After relocating to Portland, Oregon in 1950, Freddie Mae attended Lincoln High School, and eventually came to settle down in the lovely Irvington Neighborhood.

A beautiful woman inside and out, Freddie Mae was also a hard-working mother who raised her children with a loving, but strong hand.

She was never far from home, and when not keeping a watchful eye on her children and grandchildren, you could catch her watching General Hospital, All My Children, or one of her other favorite soap operas and game shows.

She was a frequent church-goer, and a past member of Mt. Sinai Church, but it was her love of gospel music, and the deliciously prepared Sunday dinners that her family will always remember.

Not one to travel very often, as a fear of flying kept her grounded, it was on two memorable occasions that she was persuaded to spread her wings.

A ‘Girls Trip’ to Reno in 1988 with her sisters, and a fun family trip to Disneyland, arranged by her children in 2008 leave behind treasured memories.

Having endured hardships and personal tragedy in her own life, Freddie Mae could always be counted on to help others in times of need.

As one of her granddaughters fondly recalled, ‘You could always get a meal…even if you weren’t hungry, because she would keep asking until you took it’.

She would give anyone her last, and was a very funny and caring person, which is why she was loved and appreciated by friends and family alike.

Her kindness, generosity, and sassiness that increased with age, will make her sadly missed, but forever remembered.

Freddie Mae was preceded in death by; Mother and Father; Fred C. & Eula Allen, Daughter Linda Allen, Sons Edward and Leland Green, Grandson Shawn Taylor, Sisters Herculene Minnieweather and Altheresa Williams(Allen), and Brothers Larry Allen and Leura Allen. Freddie Mae leaves behind to cherish her memory, sisters Doris Jones and Eva Curry, along with Brother Lonnie Allen. Her children, daughters Althea Diggs, Armeal Johnson, Ramona Johnson, and son Vallance Johnson remain to carry on her legacy.

She was also the proud Grandmother to twelve grandchildren (two deceased),

14 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

“Although we lay you to rest today, your memory and love will forever stay’.
