Evelyn Alta Reisig

October 4, 1921 — September 8, 2016

Evelyn moved from this life to eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 8, 2016 at the age of 94 – just weeks short of her 95th birthday.  She was born October 4, 1921 as the first child of Lewis A. Hall and Alta Genevieve (Davis) Hall, in Silverton, Oregon.  She was the sister to younger brother Raymond Hall.

Evelyn grew up on a farm outside of Silverton in the Willamette Valley -- an area settled by her Norwegian ancestors in the mid-1800s, after traveling by covered wagon along the Oregon Trail. She completed grades 1-8 at the Davis Country School, and graduated from Silverton High School.  Along with her family, she was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Silverton, and also the Silverton chapter of the American Legion -- her Father Lewis Hall was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for action in WWI.

After high school, Evelyn moved to Portland, Oregon to study at Emmanuel Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 3-years with a R.N. (Registered Nursing) Degree and a State of Oregon License.  She continued to work at Emmanuel Hospital from graduation to retirement; beginning on the General Medicine Floor, and later to Head Nurse of Labor and Delivery Rooms.  After retirement she continued her work providing nursing and office support for OBGYN private practice offices.

Working General Medicine at Emmanuel she met an injured patient, David Henry Reisig.  After healing, attraction, dating and engagement, Dave and Evelyn married on March 10, 1944 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Silverton.

Evelyn continued at Emmanuel Hospital, and they made their home in Portland. After 31 years of marriage, Dave passed from this life (1920-1975).  Evelyn never married again, and lived in their house until after her 94th birthday, devoting herself to raising and supporting her children, continuing in nursing, and becoming well known for her activities and leadership in supporting St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Portland, serving in the Sewing Circle, Quilting Circle, Hospitality Chairwoman (Coffee/Drinks/Sweets between services), Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, and Wedding Coordinator.

Evelyn and Dave’s marriage was blessed with four children; Gwen E. (Reisig) Maddalena (husband Bill) – Emmett, ID, Ray D. Reisig (wife Cathy) -- Happy Valley, OR, John H. Reisig (wife Janice) – Houston, TX, and Robert (Bob) L. Reisig (wife Michelle) – Kent, WA.

Evelyn’s lineage continues with four Grandchildren in Texas – Jenny M. (Reisig) Cammack (husband Michael), Julie A. (Reisig) Yancey (husband Dino), Jodi L. (Reisig) Baldys (husband Matt), John D. Reisig (wife Shannon), and three Grandchildren in Washington State -- Alexander J. Reisig, Teagan S. Reisig, and Lucas S.P. Reisig.  Also, seven Great-Grandchildren and a number of Step-Grandchildren and Step-Great-Grandchildren.

Having lived past her 94th birthday, Evelyn was preceded in death by most of her generation, including her parents, brother Raymond & sister-in-law, husband Dave, his three sisters and two brothers, and son-in-law Bill Maddalena -- also, the loss of many dear friends and co-workers over her many years of life.

Evelyn, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Friend … will be missed, remembered and loved by the generations her life has touched, and especially by the many she has prepared for this life and the next.
