Edward Lewis Green

March 5, 1964 — January 8, 2019

He wasn’t just a son, brother, father, uncle, cousin and friend.

He was OUR son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.

He was loved, and brought love and happiness to those who knew him best.

Today we hold tight to the memories and experiences that we have shared with Edward, as we gather together to honor and pay tribute to him.

When you begin to tell the story of a life, you look for the characteristics that made that individual stand out. The significant traits, the events, the tragedies and triumphs which are imbedded into your heart, and make that person memorable and unique. It is sometimes hard to know what to say about a loved one at this time, but these few words of sentiment we respectfully submit, and hope they do justice to his legacy.

Edward Green was born on March 5, 1964 in Portland, Oregon.

He was the son of Jerry Lee Green, and the 6th child born to Freddie Mae Johnson.

A longtime resident of Northeast Portland, Edward went to Irvington Grade School and later was a student at Grant High School.

He was a child of the 60’s and 70’s, and a part of the generation that hung out at Irving Park, dined at Burger Barn, and was a well-liked member of our tight knit community.

Portland was home for Edward, and it wasn’t out of the ordinary to see him hanging out in front of his Mom’s home, or around the neighborhood with family and longtime friends.

Edward was a good man.

Faithful and true, and you would be hard pressed to find someone that knew him to tell you otherwise. He was a sweet and gentle person, with an easy-going attitude and a kind heart.

Always there for his family and friends, he had a hard time saying ‘no’ to those he cared about.

For the most part you could say that Edward was just a simple man, who lived a simple life.

However, there is quote that comes to mind when we think of him, and it goes like this… “That best portion of a good man's life is his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness, generosity and love.”

It is because of those little big things that he will always be a part of us, always be remembered, and always be loved.

Edward is survived by his Son and only child, J.R. Green.

He leaves behind his Mother, Freddie Mae Johnson, and siblings, sisters Althea Diggs and (husband Ulysses Diggs), Armeal Johnson, Ramona Johnson, Linda Green, Amanda Green, and brothers, Vallance Johnson, Jerry Green, Jr, Willie B. Green and London Green.

He is preceded in death by his father Jerry Lee Green, Sr., sister Linda Johnson, brother Leland Green, nephew Shawn Taylor, and nephew Larry Green.

Edward will also be forever loved and remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
