Connie Marbott

May 29, 1931 — January 15, 2024

Constance “Connie” Louise Marbott was born in Portland May 29, 1931, and passed away at home in her favorite chair in the presence of her three children Jan. 15, 2024. Connie was the daughter of Mary Madeline Rivinius and Edwin Bartlett, however her stepfather, Fred Pruhsmeier, was the father she loved and helped raise her.

Connie and her mom spent the early years of her life in S.W. Portland where she attended St. Lawrence Parish and School. She and her family later moved to N.E. 86th Avenue off Halsey which was considered to be “in the country.” The family had a cow, chickens, dogs, and a goat named Teddy that butted little Connie as she played in the yard.

Connie graduated from Holy Child Academy and then worked for Wausau Insurance until she married. Connie met Ernie Marbott during the summer of 1955 through friends on a water-skiing outing on the Columbia River. They were married in January 1956. Connie and Ernie were married for 66 years until Ernie’s passing in 2022.

Together Connie and Ernie (and later Larry) ran the family business - Marbott’s Greenhouse and Nursery. The business thrived, especially because Connie enjoyed attending Gift Shows and bought garden and nursery related decor which made the business more than a flower or plant destination. She and Ernie traveled to many Greenhouse and Nursery Conventions throughout the United States and enjoyed several vacations in Europe and Canada.

Connie really enjoyed Sunday drives, especially since they usually ended with an ice cream cone. Connie liked to dabble in various crafts such as tole painting, crocheting, ceramics, and flower arranging. She enjoyed baking and there was a time she made weekly jellyrolls or lemon meringue pies - these being the dessert fads at the time. She always enjoyed playing card games.

Ernie taught Connie how to play Jass, a German/Swiss/French card game and she and Ernie were in a Pinochle group for some years. When her children were in high school and college, she was on a bowling league. Connie was interested in other people’s lives and was quick-witted and enjoyed joking with friends and customers at the nursery. She retained her sense of humor until she passed.

She is survived by three children, Leslie Marbott, Larry Marbott and Lynda Collmer (Ken). A son, Loren, died in infancy. Also, she is survived by three granddaughters, Lauren Parker (Zach), Eileen Fredericton (Jake) and Natalie Collmer; and four great-grandchildren.
