Charles Vickers

Oct 3, 1979 — Jun 14, 2026

Charles "Chas" James Vickers was born in Portland, Oregon on October 3rd, 1979 to Greg and Stephanie Vickers. He attended Boise-Elliot ECE, Alameda Elementary School, Beaumont Middle School, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1998. From a young age Chas loved trees, the weather, running, and reading. For many years throughout his life he would log weather patterns and trends, lament the death and removal of neighborhood trees, plant and save too many trees to count, and find joy and peace while nose deep in a book. As a former varsity cross country athlete, he never lost his love for exploring his community and the many parks and arboretums throughout.

On July 7th, 2006, Chas married Candice and they welcomed their first child Charlie in 2007 and their second child Michael in 2009. He took pride in being a stay at home dad, volunteering often at his kids' schools and was a staple in their classrooms, at recess, and on all of the field trips. Chas loved watching his children play. He enjoyed coaching Charlie's sports teams, and gardening and doing art projects with Michael. There was no bigger Blazer fan than Chas. He loved attending games with his family, no matter how high the seats, and often played basketball in his backyard and his mother’s driveway. Chas was a social justice warrior who committed himself to the betterment of the world and especially the environment. As a partner and father, Chas was loving, compassionate, and deeply engaged. He loved and always wanted to help others and lended a helping hand whenever he could. Chas felt everything deeply and those whom he loved never doubted it.

On June 14th, 2026, Chas' heart stopped beating and, according to his beliefs, his spirit moved on to that realm where spirits reside all around us.

Chas was preceded in death by his father Greg Vickers, his step mother Delores “Dee Dee” Vickers, and his mother-in-law Kathryn Williams. He is survived by his mother Stephanie Vickers, his father-in-law Warren Williams Jr., his wife Candice Rae Vickers Williams, his children Charles James Vickers II and Michael HeLynn Michelle Vickers, his brother Tyler Thomas Vickers and sister-in-law Nora Bauman, his brother-in-law Warren Williams III, his nieces Mia Prater, Freya Williams, Carla Vickers, and Joan Vickers, his nephew Warren Williams IV, and his god children Jaden Patterson, Shauntayia Collins, and Jameer Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to fulfill Chas' final wish of a green burial under a tree in the community where he grew up and raised his children at https://gofund.me/74917e6bb, or planting your own Giant Sequoia or Western Red Cedar tree somewhere in his honor.

The family welcomes all who knew Chas to join them on July 7th, 2026 for his viewing from 12:00-2:00pm, and his green burial at 2:00pm. Both will be held at Rose City Funeral Home and Cemetery located at 5625 Northeast Fremont Street, Portland, Oregon 97213.
