Barbara Jean Vaughn
Barbara Jean Vaughn, 78, passed away in Portland, Oregon, on June 25, 2024, after a short battle with a recurrence of a rare and aggressive cancer. Born in Portland, Oregon, on January 2, 1946, Barbara was the daughter of Harold and Sigrid Vaughn. She grew up in the NE/Grant Park neighborhood attending Fernwood Grade School and Grant High School. She graduated from Oregon State University in 1968 with a degree in Home Economics Education.
Following college Barbara spent a year in Europe and then returned to Portland where she remained for the rest of her life, aside from a short stint when she followed the move of Georgia-Pacific’s headquarters to Atlanta. She worked her entire career as an executive assistant and receptionist in the fields of business, finance, and the arts.
Barbara loved her morning Starbucks coffee group, happy hour, watching cooking shows on television for hours, her ladies tennis group, breakfast out, and almost anything where she could be in the company of others.
Survivors of Barbara include her sister Nancy Clarke and Nancy’s husband Jim; nephew Andy Clarke and his wife Stephanie and their children Campbell and Cooper; and her niece Molly Warlick and Molly’s husband Eric and their children Jack and Ellie.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Sigrid Vaughn and a baby sister, Janet. The interment of her remains will be held at Rose City Cemetery at 9:30 am on August 14th followed by brunch at her favorite spot, Cadillac Cafe.
